Since the General Assembly adopted its first resolution on a moratorium seven years ago, more States acknowledge that the death penalty undermines human dignity. It fails to deter crimes more than other punishments. Abolition – or at least a moratorium – contributes to human rights. The taking of life is too irreversible for one person to inflict on another. We must continue arguing strongly that the death penalty is unjust and incompatible with fundamental human rights. I urge leaders where the death penalty still is used to legally commute or pardon death sentences – and to impose moratoriums on executions. The death penalty has no place in the 21st century. I call on States that have not yet done so to ratify the Second Optional Protocol of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights aiming at abolition of the death penalty. I hope to see many more ratifications during the Protocol’s 25th anniversary this year. The ed Nations will continue working to end this cruel punishment.201505/376833I truly believe, if we can see one another as fellow human beings, then it becomes very difficult to tolerate atrocities like slavery.我确实相信,当我们把他们当做同胞就会很难容忍奴役这样的暴行。These images are not of issues. Hi, everybody. One of the things that makes America great is our passion for innovation – that spirit of discovery and entrepreneurship that helps us meet any challenge. One of the greatest challenges of our time is climate change. Over the last seven years, weve made historic investments in clean energy that helped private sector companies create tens of thousands of good jobs. And today, clean power from the wind or the sun is actually cheaper in many communities than dirtier, conventional power. Its helped grow our economy and cut our total carbon pollution more than any other country on earth. That leadership helped bring nearly 200 nations together in Paris around the most ambitious climate agreement in history. And in Paris, we also launched one of the most important partnerships ever assembled to accelerate this kind of clean energy innovation around the world. Investors and business leaders including Bill Gates, Meg Whitman, and Mark Zuckerberg joined us, pledging their own money to help advance new technologies to the market. Thats important because well only meet this challenge if the private sector helps lead the way. As I said in my State of the Union Address, rather than subsidize the past, we should invest in the future. Thats why the budget I will send to Congress this Tuesday will double funding for clean energy research and development by 2020. This will include new investments to help the private sector create more jobs faster, lower the cost of clean energy faster, and help clean, renewable power outcompete dirty fuels in every state. And while Republicans in Congress are still considering their position on climate change, many of them realize that clean energy is an incredible source of good-paying jobs for their constituents. Thats why we were able to boost clean energy research and development in last years budget agreement. And I hope they support my plan to double that kind of investment. Because its making a difference across the country. In Idaho, our Battery Test Center is helping electric cars run longer on a single charge. In Ohio, entrepreneurs are pioneering new ways to harness wind power from the Great Lakes. In Tennessee, researchers are partnering with utilities to boost storage and solar power to create a more resilient electric grid. The point is, all across the country, folks are putting their differences aside to face this challenge as one. Washington should do the same. Thats how were going to solve this challenge – together. And thats how were going to give our kids and grandkids the future they deserve – one with a safe, secure, and prosperous planet. Thanks, everybody, and have a great weekend.201602/426537There are people who will hold their positions with honor there are people who will not. If you doubt that all you have to do is thinking about the current scandal with Backdating of Stock Options. Here you have people in some of the most prospected companies, in America who lose sight of good judgment and good ethics. They believe that they could get away with something because there wasnt a clear rule that told they couldnt. thats a breakdown in judgment and ethics. I knew from being a secretary and sitting in the mail room that sometimes people stop talking directly with each other about the real issues and when that happens, dysfunctions occurs and bad things happen in the business. That happens all the way up the chain. People are people wherever you find them and that gaming theory course, I found it fascinating, was a whole set of quantitative science design to try and explain how it is that peoples personal agendas or emotions or fears can drive them to any irrational decision. And yet it happens all the time. And if you want to advance in business you have to also understand people. I took a course in organizational behavior and one of the important things that we have to do was role play a labor negotiation. Everybody went into this role play after very electoral conversation about how to bring two opposing groups together everyone knew electorally that the only way to solve this very tough problem between management and labor was for both sides to feel as though their issues were at least recognized, and hopefully addressed in some way. In other words, there had to be a win-win somewhere in there. Everyone knew this electorally, we study it. 201408/317806
