1) I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you。 /200909/83330

New Year's Day is the last bank holiday of the festive season, which means most people have to go to work the next day: bright and fresh and y for the new year ahead! New Year in the UK usually starts with a celebration on New Year's Eve (31st December). Some people spend the evening at home with their family, or have a party for friends at their house. PARTY。 Others go to a pub to celebrate, or spend the evening in a large public space, for example Trafalgar Square in London. The beginning of the New Year is signified by the chiming of Big Ben, the famous London clock, at midnight, which is also shown on TV for those who are staying in. In Scotland, New Year is called Hogmanay, and for some people, it's a bigger celebration than Christmas. In big cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow there are street parties with around 100,000 people, enjoying music, entertainment and fireworks at midnight. One Scottish tradition which is now popular throughout the UK as well as in the USA, is the singing of a traditional folk song. 'Auld lang syne', reminds us to think of old friends and remember the good times of the past, as we look to the future. Although New Year's Eve involves drinking alcohol for many people, New Year's Day signals the start of a healthier life, as some people make New Year's resolutions. Often these are connected with fitness and health, for example giving up smoking or drinking, taking more exercise or losing weight. Other people make a resolution to improve their life in other ways, such as spending more time with family, learning something new, or getting out of debt. Unfortunately, it's not always easy to stick to your resolutions, especially if they are related to saving money. The January sales can provide shopaholics with far too much temptation. Almost every shop is full of special offers and bargains, which can make it hard to just go window shopping. /200803/29057

SHOWER OR BATH? Answer: Shower It’s a healthier way to clean your body than soaking in the water you wash in. But baths are brilliantly relaxing. Use the shower head to rinseoff afterwards.

以下举一些最常见的例子:第一个为:American English 美语 第二个为:British English 英语 公寓 apartment flat 洗手间 bathroom/restroom toilet 罐头 can tin 糖果 candy sweets 洋芋片 chips crisps 饼干 cookie biscuit 玉米 corn maize 对方付费电话 collect call reverse charge call 婴儿床 crib cot 尿布 diaper nappy 电梯 elevator lift 橡皮擦 eraser rubber 一楼 first floor ground floor 手电筒 flashlight torch 薯条 french fries chips 垃圾桶 garbage can dustbin 汽油 gas, gasoline petrol 果酱 jelly jam 汽车的引擎盖 hood bonnet 生气 mad angry 数学 math maths 餐巾、擦嘴巾 napkin serviette 丝袜 panty-hose, pantihose tights 薯片 potato chips crisp 手提包 purse/pocketbook handbag 足球 soccer football 来回票 roundtrip return 人行道 sidewalk pavement 炉子 stove cooker 毛衣 sweater jersey, jumper 卡车 truck lorry 汽车后面的行李箱 trunk boot 假期 vacation holiday 拼字的差异比较小,以下是一些例子:第一个为:American English 美语 第二个为:British English 英语 考古学 archeology archaeology 目录 catalog catalogue 文明 civilization civilisation 颜色 color colour 马路牙子 curb kerb 抵抗 defense defence 草稿 draft draught 最爱 favorite favourite 荣誉 honor honour 珠宝 jewelry jewllery 组织 organization organisation 练习 practice practise 轮胎 tire tyre /200903/64399

As we drove off from Columbia, I wanted to write a letter to you to tell you all that is on my mind. First, I want to tell you how proud we are. Getting into Columbia is a real testament of what a great well-rounded student you are. Your academic, artistic, and social skills have truly blossomed in the last few years. Whether it is getting the highest grade in Calculus, completing your elegant fashion design, successfully selling your painted running shoes, or becoming one of the top orators in Model ed Nations, you have become a talented and accomplished young woman. You should be as proud of yourself as we are. I will always remember the first moment I held you in my arms. I felt a tingling sensation that directly touched my heart. It was an intoxicating feeling I will always have. It must be that “father-daughter connection” which will bind us for life. I will always remember singing you lullaby while I rocked you to sleep. When I put you down, it was always with both relief (she finally fell asleep!) and regret (wishing I could hold you longer). And I will always remember taking you to the playground, and watching you having so much fun. You were so cute and adorable, and that is why everybody loved you so. You have been a great kid ever since you were born, always quiet, empathetic, attentive, and well-mannered. You were three when we built our house. I remember you quietly followed us every weekend for more than ten hours a day to get building supplies. You put up with that boring period without a fuss, happily ate hamburgers every meal in the car, sang with Barney until you fell asleep. When you went to Sunday Chinese school, you studied hard even though it was no fun for you. I cannot believe how lucky we are as parents to have a daughter like you. You have been an excellent elder sister. Even though you two had your share of fights, the last few years you have become best friends. Your sister loves you so much, and she loves to make you laugh. She looks up to you, and sees you as her role model. As you saw when we departed, she misses you so much. And I know that you miss her just as much. There is nothing like family, and other than your parents, your sister is the one person who you can trust and confide in. She will be the one to take care of you, and the one you must take care of. There is nothing we wish more than that your sisterhood will continue to bond as you grow older, and that you will take care of each other throughout your lives. For the next four years, do have a short chat with her every few days, and do email her when you have a chance. /200910/86957

Last Post* for Britain's Card Habit? One of Britain's few distinctive contributions to world culture may be doomed, according to a survey that suggests holiday postcards are being emailed and texted into extinction. More than half of the 1,000 holiday-makers interviewed said they had decided to send fewer cards, turning instead to their electronic rivals. A quarter of the respondents dismissed postcards as old-fashioned and slow to arrive. A further 14% admitted that thinking of something to fill the space was too challenging, compared with a call home. Although officially invented by a Hungarian, Emanuel Herrmann, in 1869, the idea of illustrated cards was taken up with most enthusiasm in Victorian Britain, joining Gothic architecture and landscape gardening as fields in which the country excelled. "If the British postcard did become extinct, we would lose for ever something of great importance to the nation," said Chris Mottershead of Thomson Holidays, which commissioned the poll. He was backed by Marie Angelou of Sussex University, who has investigated the importance of sending and receiving postcards. "Postcards are nothing like phone calls, instant texting and direct photo shots via the mobile," she said. "All these are useful, practical devices, but postcards offer something else, something additional that is not mundane and simply functional, but imaginative and personal. They can evoke the real atmosphere of your holiday in a way that nothing else can do. They're also for more than a moment--with some people adding them to collections built up over years and years." Postcard-collecting, or deltiology, is third only to coins and stamps in Britain's allied tradition of collecting things. The country's uniquely postcard-related achievements include the invention in 1902 of the "divided back". With the address taking up half of the writing area, brief postcard scribbles became the precursor to today's cryptic text messages. Notes: *last post:尽头,末路。 /200803/28897
