If the uncooked meat is refrozen these new bacteria are put into suspended animation along with their living ancestors. This means that when the meat is rethawed there are not only the parents and their offspring, but the “grandkids,” “great-grandkids,” and so on, all reproducing faster than the proverbial rabbits. In other words, there are many more generations of bacteria to cause illness. By refreezing uncooked meat we increase the odds of becoming sick from eating it because we give harmful bacteria more chances to reproduce and thrive. So if you can’t cook it soon, throw it away, or give it to the dog, who is not as sensitive to those bacteria.【生词注释】ancestor n. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton named a senior U.S. diplomat Thursday to help expedite President Obama's order to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp within a year. Daniel Fried, now Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, will, among other things, work to persuade other countries to accept Guantanamo detainees. The decision to tap Assistant Secretary Fried, one of the State Department's highest-profile diplomats, for the Guantanamo post underscores the priority the Obama administration puts on closing the controversial detention facility. Fried, a former U.S. Ambassador to Poland, worked at the White House National Security Council during the Clinton administration. As Assistant Secretary for Europe in the Bush administration, Fried was a key figure in executing U.S. policy on Kosovo, European missile defense, and last year's Russia-Georgia conflict. Announcing the appointment at a news briefing, State Department Acting Spokesman Robert Wood said Fried's European experience will be valuable as the administration turns to European countries, among others, to accept Guantanamo detainees who cannot be returned to their home countries. I think if you look at Assistant Secretary Fried's background, he's got a great deal of experience in working with countries in Europe and other places around the globe," he said. "The secretary [of state] felt that in order to help facilitate this process, we need somebody who's got the skills and insight who can do this, and she and others felt that Dan [Fried] was the appropriate choice for this." The Bush administration opened the Guantanamo camp in 2002 to house terrorism suspects, many of them detained in the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan. Most detainees have been held without formal charges and the camp has long been the target of criticism from human rights groups and other governments. Hundreds of the camp's original detainees have been repatriated or otherwise re-settled, but it still houses about 250 inmates. Fried will work to find countries to accept the 60 or more detainees who will not face U.S. criminal charges, some of whom would risk persecution if returned to their nations of birth. Fried will remain in his European affairs post until the person nominated to succeed him, former Clinton White House foreign policy aide Philip Gordon, is confirmed by the Senate. The Guantanamo portfolio has been handled on an interim basis by the State Department's ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues, Clinton Williamson, who will return to that task full-time when Fried becomes available. America's presidential rivals put aside their differences to mark the seventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people. Barack Obama and John McCain each laid a flower at Ground Zero in New York. Robert Nisbet reports.Today the increasingly bitter presidential campaign was suspended. The two political rivals bowed their heads at a makeshift memorial in the pit at Ground Zero. Earlier at 8:46 in the morning, the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center 7 years ago, bells across the city rang out. New York paused to remember. In all, there were full silences marking the moments of impact and when the towers collapsed. “I will miss you, mom, forever. I thank you for the lessons you taught me in life and in your death. Thank you.”“Robert J. DeAngelis Junior”,“Tom Elizabeth”.This is the last time families of the victims will be allowed on the site for the anniversary. “James DeBlase.” Work is due to begin soon on the permanent memorial called the Freedom Tower. “Simon Marash Dedvukaj. Jason Christopher DeFazio.”More bells tolled in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where ed 93 crashed into a field killing 40 passengers and crew. “I’ve had the great honor and privilege to witness great courage and sacrifice for America's sake, but none greater than the sacrifice of those good people who grasped the gravity of the moment, understood the threat, and decided to fight back at the cost of their lives.”At the Pentagon, where 184 people died when American Airline 77 crashed into the perimeter wall, a memorial was dedicated by the president. “A doomed airliner plunged from the sky, split the rock and steel of this building, and changed our world forever. The years that followed have seen justice delivered to evil men and battles fought in distant lands.” The shattering events of 9/11 helped mold the legacy of the outgoing commander-in-chief. The repercussions will still be felt by his successor.Robert Nisbet, Sky News, Washington. The CEO salary cap Fortune's Andy Serwer looks at the pros and cons of Sen. McCaskill's proposal to cap CEO pay at 0,000. There is a move afoot you may have heard this, to cap the pay of CEOs whose companies receive TARP money. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri has just suggested 400,000 dollars, the same amount of money that the President makes, that's all these CEOs should be taking home. And you know, I guess you can kinda understand this, some of these CEOs have been suggesting that there is TARP money over here in this pot, and then there's other money over here, and that their salaries are coming from this pot, and the money for their airplanes is coming from this pot, not from this pot over here. Well, it really doesn't wash, cause it's all the same pot of money, and of course the perception by the public is that they are getting the government bailout and then they are using it to pay themselves, a ton of money and fly around in airplanes, so, not really good.Think about another thing, by the way, suppose you were forced to take TARP money, there were instances where various banks and institutions didn't want to get this money and the Treasury said, you know you need to take this money anyway. Umm, that, of course, now may limit the CEOs' pay which is something that these CEOs don't like, you may remember Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs. He's capped his pay at 600,000 dollars, even that may be too much, given this new 400,000-dollar limit proposed by Senator McCaskill.Of course, the President of the ed States, gets a whole lot of other goodies besides just that 400,000 dollars, right? He got the White House, Air Force One, security, probably a lot of other perks too, so maybe not quite a fair comparison, you know, it reminds me of that old line that Babe Ruth said back in 1930, when he was paid 80,000 dollars a year, which was 5,000 dollars more than President Herbert Hoover was making--75,000 dollars a year. And some sports writers asked him and said, "So, how does it feel? How do you justify making more money than the president did?" And Babe Ruth said, "I had a better year than the president." Not clear at all that the CEOs at any of these institutions can say that, although, compared to which president? President Bush, President Obama? I don't know. It's kind of difficult to say who had a better or worse year, isn't it?GLOSSARY1. afoot adjective, [not before noun] being planned; happening: There are plans afoot to increase taxation. Changes were afoot but we had no idea what they would turn out to be. 2. Cap: an upper limit on an amount of money that can be spent or borrowed by a particular institution or in a particular situation: The government has placed a cap on local council spending.3. Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964) was the 31st President of the ed States (1929–1933). 02/62846 The warm glow of the summer morning settles on the slopes of western Colorado. But as the sun climbs higher, deep shadows shield the landscape that remains dark and forbidding. It is among the nation's deepest, steepest and narrowest canyons. You may hear varying explanations for how the Black Canyon of the Gunnison got its name. "Well, there are two theories on that. I think the one that's most popular is that it is so deep and narrow that the sunshine only reaches most of the canyon a short time each day."As one of America's newest national parks, Black Canyon struggles for the recognition enjoyed by that other canyon park of the Southwest. "Grand Canyon of course is so fabulous and everybody goes there and knows all about it. But you come here and it's so deep and so narrow, and it's just, just awe-inspiring."Much of the Black Canyon is wilderness, but almost from the moment white settlers arrived in the area; plans were hatched to make this "a canyon of commerce". "By 1880 you saw the Denver and Rio Grand Railroad (and) starting to look at the canyon as a possible way to bring the railroad from the Front Range of Colorado, Denver and Colorado Springs, on a route through to Salt Lake and then perhaps on to San Francisco."The railroad made its way through 15 miles of the Black Canyon, but today it's mostly under Morrow Point reservoir. "We've got real technical class three whitewater in here." Not far from Black Canyon, Bill Dvorak has been guiding rafting and fishing trips in the Gunnison Gorge Conservation Area since 1982. "Yeah, I really like bringing people into these kinds of places and showing them what it's like when we do preserve these places and how, you know, just how spectacular and how beautiful it is."Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area is adjacent to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. At its heart is a wilderness area that is especially popular for rafting and fishing. "You're humbled as a human. Let's put it that way. You go through that and you're a very little piece of something very big and very old and very dramatic."For millions of years, the Gunnison River has been carving this canyon at work across eons of isolation. Even now it's easy to imagine that you are the first to peer over the rim into the dark soul of the Black Canyon. "Because we don't have so many people, there is, you know, millions of people a year coming to visit the canyon, people do have that opportunity to have a personal relationship with this place."200812/58332福州福清医院收费贵吗福清海口镇微创腋臭
