厦门欧菲整形医院去除狐臭多少钱探索世界奥秘之Supermassive Black Holes(超大质量黑洞) 05By measuring how fast these stars were moving, he could prove if there really was a black hole at the center of an active galaxy. I picked a galaxy nearby which is called NGC 1068, an active galaxy, which meant that it probably had a supermassive black hole in it, at least, that's what we wanted to prove. To be certain that the stars were moving unnaturally fast in NGC 1068, Dresslar wanted to compare them with stars in a normal galaxy without a black hole. Stars circling around a weak center of gravity would move at half the speed. So for this comparison, he chose the very ordinary galaxy next door to us, Andromeda(仙女座), with a quiet, inactive center like our own. To measure the speed of the stars in these two very different galaxies, Dresslar used an instrument called a spectroscope. This looks at the changing pattern of light coming from stars as they rotate around the galaxy core. The spectroscope shows the center of the galaxy as a white band and the movement of stars around the core is traced by a dark, vertical line. If the stars of the galaxy's center are circling slowly, then the dark band would show hardly any change, but if they are traveling at great speed, whizzing towards and away from us either side of a supermassive black hole, then the dark band should show a sudden shift across the center of the galaxy. I would expect to see some rather rapid change in this dark line so that there'd be a very big change in the speed from one side of the galaxy to the other, very suddenly, right over the center and that would show that the stars were moving very rapidly in the center of the galaxy because of the influence of the great mass in the center, the supermassive black hole. Over the next a few nights, Dresslar measured the speed of the stars in NGC 1068 and in Andromeda.spectroscope: an apparatus for producing and recording spectra for examinationwhiz: move quickly through the air with a whistling or whooshing sound200807/45204思明区吸脂多少钱 Symbolic Cyprus Crossing Reopens希族与土族塞浦路斯人拆除过境点Greek and Turkish Cypriots have removed a blockade that has separated them for half a century. Ledra Street, a thoroughfare in the heart of Nicosia had become a potent symbol of Cyprus's ethnic partition. Piles of sand bags, soldiers with rifles and sentry points that have long been the visual symbol of this island's division have given way to the bustle of pedestrians crossing through the capital's oldest shopping street. You still have to have your passport stamped when crossing from the Greek sector to the Turkish side, which takes a few minutes, so this is by no means an open and free crossing. But the technicalities were brushed aside Thursday as both Greek and Turkish Cypriots savored the moment. George Iacovou, aide to Cyprus President Demetris Christofias, was the first to speak at the opening ceremony. We aspire to the elimination of crossings and the opening of all roads in this country for all its citizens with no obstructions as a consequence of its reunification," said Iacovou. Ozdil Nami the aide to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat was also upbeat. We are witnessing the overthrow of one of the obstacles for the reunification of the island," said Nami. "It has been a very symbolic crossing point." UNFICYP spokesperson Jose Luis Diaz says the events are a step in the right direction and he is hopeful progress between the two communities on the Cyprus problem can be made soon. We think it is important because the closing of Ledra Street has become a symbol for the division of Cyprus, so we hope this opening will mark the beginning of a process of engagement between the two sides that will lead to a settlement of this long-standing dispute," said Diaz. Greek and Turkish Cypriots have been divided since 1974, when Turkey deployed troops after a coup by Greek Cypriots who wanted union with Greece. Cyprus' government demolished a wall and military checkpoint on Ledra Street last year. But plans to reopen the street were rejected by President Christofias' predecessor, Tassos Papadopoulos. The removal of this barrier connects two different worlds - prosperous southern Cyprus, with its brand-name shops such as Starbucks and Marks and Spencer, to a row of tiny Turkish Cypriot traders selling fake jeans, carpets and the latest mobile phones at knocked down prices. The Ledra Street crossing is now the sixth barrier to open connecting the two communities. Even though the removal of the Ledra crossing may be just a symbolic move, U.N. Undersecretary-General Lynn Pascoe sees an opportunity to solve the division of this island. The two leaders have set their sights on achieving a fair and last solution and I think Cypriots are right to have high expectations," said Pascoe. "I am encouraged and will pass this on to the secretary general when I talk with him." After the ed Nations failed attempt to reunite Cyprus in 2004, Pascoe's words are welcome news to Cypriots who want to end the division of this island.

Welcome back, you're watching Channel 4 News. Now controlling inflation has been at the very heart of the government's claims of economic competence. But today for the first time in ten years, the rate of inflation rose above Gordon Brown's target. The Bank of England has the job of meeting that target and the governor has now had to write to the Chancellor explaining what's gone wrong. In his letter, Mervyn King talks of growing price pressures within the economy and most economists believe more interest rate rises are imminent. Our economics correspondent Faisal Islam explains. For ten years, the Bank of England has built an unrivaled reputation for maintaining economic stability through low inflation. But is that now melting away as inflation surges to nearly 1% over the European average? Does a shock breach of the Treasury-imposed target for inflation evaporate Britain's superior economic record?"We have pretty strong economic growth overall. We have a period of very, very low interest rates, and inflations remain. But now, I think some of that is probably now starting to unravel. And if we continue to see decent rates of economic growth in this country and abroad, then that will not be combined any more with low interest rates. We won't be able to have our cake and eat it."The government's target for inflation is an annual rates of 2%, but with a one percent margin of error either side. Over the last year, inflation has been rising towards the target's upper limit, but in the last two months, it seemed to be dropping back. Now today's figure has breached the government's targets for the first time ever. And it's all being driven by real factors within the economy. Food and drinks prices are rising at their highest annual rates for 6 years. Furniture and household equipment prices too are racing ahead at a ten-year high. On the Treasury preferred measure, it's the highest rates of inflation for a decade. The Retail Price Index, which includes mortgage costs, is at 4.8%, a 16 year high."The governor's letter makes it perfectly clear that this is not just a temporary blip. At least half of the inflation, which is recorded, is caused by the big expansion of money in credit and personal debts in the economy. And of course there is a lot of hidden inflation which isn't captured in these figures in the form of a massive boom in the housing market."The letter from the governor of the Bank of England, says he is determined to bring inflation back to target. That's likely to mean rates up from 5.25% within weeks. Some in the city see an augment for the first half a percent rise since 1994. Yet the reply by the Chancellor for this first breach of his system is relaxed and non-punitive. The Treasury has no interests in complaining too loudly."Gordon Brown is handing over the power to set your interest rates, to the boss of the Bank of England, the root of Britain's perceived economic success over the past ten years. It's kept inflation low until today. Well, on the Treasury's own measure, we've had our first failure. A small one? Yes. A temporary one, say both institutions. But it couldn't have come at a worse time for Gordon Brown.""Inflation is on the rise. Unemployment has been rising in this country. We are not as competitive as we should be against countries like China and India. So that reputation for economic competence which Gordon Brown boasted of for so many years is now unraveling before our eyes and people out there in the real economy know it."Since he arrived at the Treasury, Mr. Brown has joked that there are two types of Chancellor: those who fail and those who get out in time. The man who's kept him waiting at number 11 lets to his defense today."Namely a better Chancellor since the Second World War of this country. He's produced the longest period of economic growth, interest rates half of what they were, two and a half million extra jobs, unemployment cut dramatically and massive investment in public services."Today's news augurs choppier economic waters ahead. It's a problem we forgot was there. The Bank of England will have to deal with it, which could make life tough for a Prime Minister Brown.I'm not a candidate…----------------------------------------------------------------------------------blip:n.
